When it comes to the best, most classic shows from the 1990’s Chuck Norris’ Walker, Texas Ranger is right up there on the list. I grew up watching Walker and Trivette roundhouse kick the butts of all the criminals in Texas and also became apart of the family unit of Walker, Trivette, Alex and CD, then welcomed two extended members in Gage and Sydney, two new Rangers who fit right in and kicked their fair share of bad guy booty the final couple seasons. Here are 5 simple reasons Walker is one of the all time greatest cop shows ever made!

Bonus: The iconic theme song!

Tell me that doesn’t get you hyped!

5. It’s set in Texas.

With every cop show usually set in either New York or Los Angeles back then and still today, (We can now throw Chicago in there these days) it’s really refreshing to see a show set in Texas and show us a different type of Law Enforcement agency in the Texas Rangers.

4. Walker and Alex’s love story.

Television has had its fair share of romances we love to root for and the love story between Ranger Cordell Walker and District Attorney Alex Cahill is no different. From the beginning these two crazy kids had something special and we followed them through their courting period to their first date all the way to their engagement and then marriage and we leave them after Alex gives birth to a beautiful baby girl. Walker and Alex live dangerous lives and their love for one another always got them through the worst of times and allowed them to enjoy the best of times.

3. True diversity at its finest.

Walker doesn’t get enough credit for this but at the time it had to have been one of the few shows to truly have clear racial diversity with countless numbers of Native Americans(Walker was half Cherokee) Latinos, African Americans etc. appearing every week in various roles from a range of bad guys, cops, lawyers, judges, gangs, teachers, students, preachers, etc. Such a great variety of types of roles for poc not limited to just the gang banger and drug dealers most shows limit to. Also, before it became a “fad” to have strong women on television, Walker had a smart, beautiful, compassionate, determined and skilled DA in Alex Cahill and quite a few badass, qualified female Rangers, the best being Sydney Cooke played by Nia Peeples who always held her own with the guys in fights while remaining her femininity. This wasn’t what’s called “Forced diversity” this was just real. All walks of life have come to Walker’s world including the mentally and physically disabled.

2. The crazy, intense and just all around badass fights!

It’s not Walker without Walker and co kicking some serious butt and doing it so flawlessly. The fight choreography on this show was way ahead of it’s time. And, yes, while sometimes it was obviously a stunt double for the bad guys, it doesn’t detract from the insanely awesome badassery going on. Walker’s roundhouse kick was stuff of legend!

  1. The Walker Family.

Besides all the cool fight scenes, gun play, good vs. evil and love stories, what truly made Walker an iconic and long lasting show was the family unit of Walker, Trivette, Alex and CD. The foursome was very much a family that loved each other, laughed at and with each other and would do anything for each other. They were such a family onscreen that it made it so easy for real families to watch together as a ritual. The chemistry and family like bond between them was just as real offscreen:

There will always ever be only one Walker, Texas Ranger and that’s Chuck Norris who is still kicking some serious butt today. Walker was a huge part of my and many other people’s childhood and I still get a kick watching reruns on Get Tv, INSP etc. today. It’s as iconic and memorable a cop show as shows like Hill Street Blues, Chips, the Law and Orders, Homicide: Life on The Street etc. and deserves all the love it still gets from all the fans who love to visit Walker, Alex, Trivette, CD, Gage and Sydney in Texas.

I’ll leave you with this:
