Last time we covered ten of the best and most memorable and lovable tv bosses. Well, this time we’re gonna give ten more primo bosses some love.

10. Sam Malone. Cheers.

Sam “Mayday” Malone was the easy going type of boss. Supportive, friendly, (and with women maybe a little too much so) and just as lax as they come. Sure, Sam’s lackadaisical leadership skills sometimes put Cheers in financial jeopardy, but with ole’ Sammy boy at the helm, one could look forward to knocking off at any time they felt like it, or better yet get to witness the master ladies man at work.

9. Perry White. Lois & Clark The New Adventures of Superman.

Perry White has been around for over 80 years as long as Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and many other Metropolis citizens. But in this author’s opinion, Lane Smith’s interpretation in the 1990’s classic Superman tv series Lois & Clark The New Adventures of Superman is the best version of Perry White in any live action Superman medium. Both a loving father figure and a no nonsense authority figure at The Daily Planet, Perry was someone that Lois, Clark and Jimmy all knew they could pop in on and get some down home fatherly advice… with tangents and off kilter sayings included, of course. Nobody better mess with any of his “kids” or there’d be hell to pay!

8. Lt. Arthur Fancy. NYPD Blue.

NYPD Blue was certainly Dennis Franz’s Andy Sipowicz and Jimmy Smits’ Bobby Simone’s show, as both were the show’s biggest break outs, but without James MacArthur’s sharp and tough, but loyal Lt. Arthur Fancy holding it down as the strong leader of the squad, the show wouldn’t have had the same flavor nor its grounding of hardcore reality. Fancy wasn’t perfect but he was such a devoted and amazing leader that his squad had nothing but respect for him as a cop and as a man. Even the bigoted Andy Sipowicz who often butted heads with Fancy throughout the series, developed a respect for his Black boss. The two came to depend on each other if not like each other.

7. Lt. Virginia Cooper. New York Undercover.

It ain’t easy running a whole police squad, but Lt. Cooper did it flawlessly. She was as headstrong and as tough as any male counterpart in the job, but was also just as loyal and compassionate as any good commanding officer should be. Yes, she definitely chewed out her detectives quite a bit, but they always knew that she had their backs against anyone who dared mess with her team.

6. Theo Kojak. Kojak.

Theo Kojak was one tough dude and one badass cop. But as cool, tough, and no nonsense as ole’ Theo was, he could be just as compassionate and loyal. A big teddy bear underneath it all, this duality extended to the men in his squad, and while Kojak could holler and brow beat the men under him at times, there was no question that he would always there for them when they needed him which is why they in turn, were so loyal to him.

5. Lt. Anita Van Buren. Law & Order.

I know we got a lot of cop bosses on here, but they usually end up being the best types of Tv bosses and Lt. Anita Van Buren from OG Law & Order is no different. Tough, devoted and fair, Anita was a true professional who ran her squad with style and grace. She had a bit more of a calm and relatable approach to leading her detectives than most.

4. George Lopez. George Lopez.

George Lopez was a good father and husband but maybe his true strength was as a boss because he was the angel of Powers Brothers Aviation. Many times throughout the series George went to bat for the employees at the factory. He was a devoted, likable, and overall chill boss who absolutely deserved being handed the keys to the factory as its new owner in the series finale. While it’s terrible how George Lopez was cancelled the way it was by ABC, the series finale couldn’t have given us a more perfect ending for the George character than what we got.

3. Perry Mason. Perry Mason.

Who wouldn’t want to work the the epitome of the badass lawyer trope? Perry may have you do things that could get you into big trouble sometimes, but getting to work for a guy as charming, smooth, and cool dude like Perry is worth any little scuffle one might get into. Paul Drake and Della Street were fiercely loyal to Perry because he in turn was fiercely loyal to them. Perry’s the type of boss who would give you a butt load of money with no questions asked or defend you with no doubt of your innocence just because he knows you and trusts you automatically. Don’t we all hope to work for a boss like that or to become a boss like that?

2. Benjamin Matlock. Matlock.

Ben Matlock was a brilliant lawyer who was so wonderful that anyone would be lucky to have him defend them, and he was just as wonderful as a boss to his family of many, many, associates over nine seasons. It says a lot about the kind of person you are when folks would quit their jobs and pack up their bags to move just to be able to work with you. Ben was that kindly and funny grandpa\father\uncle figure we all love to have in our lives. Sure, he was as cheap as they come, but he was generous in spirit and would share his beloved hot dogs with anybody. In short, Ben Matlock was simply the best.

  1. Chief Bill Gillespie. In The Heat of The Night.

We will all know and love Carroll O’Connor forever as Archie Bunker, but his role as In The Heat of The Night’s Chief Bill Gillespie became just as iconic and just as memorable. Chief Gillespie was grouchy, wise, funny, kind, strict, gentlemanly and a true badass cop. He was the type of leader that anyone would follow to the end of the earth due to his powerful paternal influence and his unending loyalty to the men and women of Sparta PD. It would certainly be an honor for you or me to work for a man like the Chief.

Thanks for reading! Til next time, folks!
