Good Times & The Cosby Show: The Importance of Both Groundbreaking Sitcoms That Changed The Game For The Representation of Black Families On Television Forever.

For many years now there’s always been this debate within the Black community on which was the more important as well as which was the better show: Good Times or The Cosby Show? Well, I’m here to shut down this ridiculous debate because here’s the answer…. BOTH shows, which were as different as can be on the surface but had a lot more in common then you think, were and are groundbreaking legends of television series featuring a black cast and both became classics for not only Black people, but of all people who enjoyed them in spite of the racial and cultural difference because both shows were universal in many ways. In honor of the 50th anniversay of Good Times this year I’m gonna break down why each show in their specific eras were so important at the time and their impact to this day.

Good Times Synopsis:

Florida and James Evans struggle to raise their kids — irrepressible artist JJ, voice of reason Thelma, and political activist Michael — in a Chicago housing project. They have help from wisecracking neighbors, buffoonish superintendents and friends.
